In 1960 is daar bykans 1400 fotos deur die bekende fotograaf Ambrose Lomax ontdek - 'n groot aantal waarvan die dorp Molteno, sy mense en sy lewe in pragfotos vasvang. Die foto's wat hier afgebeeld word, is 'n keur uit hierdie fotografiese studies, en bied 'n aangrypende beeld van Suid-Afrikaners aan die einde van die vorige eeu en die begin van hierdie eeu. Afgesien van hul kultuur-historiese belang, is hulle pragtig op sigself en 'n fotografiese prestasie.
 
Bekendes - en minder bekendes  - met vanne soos Coetzee, Rossouw, Meij, Meintjes, Hattingh, Van Wyk, Potgieter, Myburgh, Botha, Fourie, Marais en ander word in hierdie pragboek "uitgestal".

LOMAX: PORTRAIT OF A SOUTH AFRICAN VILLAGE - JOHANNES MEINTJES

 

In 1960 approximately 1400 photos by well-known photographer Ambrose Lomax were discovered - a large number of the town Molteno and its people. The powerful images portrayed in this book present a selection of Lomax's work. They depict a gripping portrait of South Africans at the turn of the century. Apart from their cultural-historic value, these photos are of and in themselves a testament to the photographer's skill.

Some well-known - and also lesser-known - subjects are 'captured' in the book - and well-known surnames such as Coetzee, Rossouw, Meij, Meintjes, Hattingh, Van Wyk, Potgieter, Myburgh, Botha, Fourie, Marais and others make appearances throughout the book.
